We believe every property has the potential to become something special.
At Croft Craftsmen, we take on a wide range of renovation, restoration, maintenance and transformation projects, from individual rooms and bespoke improvements to complete property transformations.
We have a particular passion for period properties and the character they bring, but our approach is always centred around the individual property and the people who live in it. Whether you’re looking to restore original features, modernise your home, improve its functionality or completely reimagine a space, we’ll work with you to find the right solution.
Thoughtful ideas, quality craftsmanship and attention to detail are at the heart of everything we do.
Creative, practical ideas tailored to your property, your lifestyle and what you want to achieve.
Quality workmanship and attention to detail, whatever the size or complexity of the project.
We listen, understand and work with you to find the right way forward — rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Sometimes you know your property needs a change, but you’re not quite sure where to start.
Whether you’re looking to renovate a tired space, modernise your home, restore original features or completely transform your property, we’re here to help you explore the possibilities.
We love taking on projects where there’s potential to be uncovered — working with you to develop ideas that are practical, considered and right for your property.
LET’S EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES
Tell us about your property, what you’d like to change and what you’re hoping to achieve. Share some photographs if you can, and we’ll take it from there.
SEE THE WORK FOR YOURSELVES
Every period property presents something different.
Below are a selection of projects we’ve had the pleasure of working on, showing not only the finished result but where the project started and the work involved in getting there.
A complete restoration of an original Edwardian conservatory, carefully retaining its character while bringing the structure and finishes back to the standard this beautiful feature deserved.
FYI…. If you would like to see this project in person please get in touch, it’s certainly something I can arrange with my client.
This extensive transformation involved a complete structural rebuild and luxury period refinishing, converting a simple straight staircase into a sweeping, curved architectural centerpiece.
The project began with stripping the existing stairs, walls, and landing floors down to the bare joists and studs, followed by framing a new curved timber structure with winders, bullnose treads, and custom-cut decorative scrollwork brackets along the outer stringer.
Then we installed carved wooden newel posts, continuous curved handrails, ornamental leaf balusters along the steps, and large, custom wrought-iron panels with gold accents along the upper landing gallery.
Finally, the space was decorated with rich yellow and gold wall moldings, herringbone oak parquet flooring, and a patterned red carpet runner secured with brass stair rods to complete the opulent Victorian-style entryway.
FYI …… This project is also available to view upon request.
This extensive 7 bedroom Art Deco exterior renovation involved setting up scaffolding to scrape and strip layers of loose render which mainly fell off due to water ingress, repairing all damaged masonry with new render and refinishing the entire facade in a fresh, textured off-white coat.
The property's signature features were completely refreshed with a vibrant green palette that highlights the green roof tiles, including the repainting of all window frames, the wide garage doors and the chevron-detailed main entrance.
Additionally, custom geometric, Art Deco-style steel railings and side gates were designed and fabricated and installed to unify the building's architectural aesthetic.
After months of hardwork and dedication our clients were blown away by the results…. Please see what they had to say in the review section.
Our work covers a wide range of projects within period properties, from individual repairs and ongoing maintenance through to larger restoration and refurbishment projects.
Careful restoration and reinstatement of original architectural features and character. Anything from reinstating damaged plaster mouldings to bringing old and tired floors back to life.
Repair, reproduction and creation of timber features appropriate to the age and style of the property. See our Edwardian conservatory project for a whole section rebuild in hardwood Sapelle timber, or the handmade bespoke sweeping staircase.
Restoration and improvement of period interiors, including woodwork, decorative features and sympathetic alterations.
Careful maintenance and repair of the external elements that protect and define an older property.
New work designed to complement the original building rather than fight against it.
Creating modern, practical spaces while considering the character and proportions of the surrounding period property.
Individual features and solutions designed specifically around the property and the client’s requirements.
Smaller repairs and ongoing maintenance undertaken with the same level of care as our larger restoration projects.
The difference between an acceptable job and an exceptional one is often found in the smallest details.
A moulding that follows an original profile.
A new piece of joinery that matches what’s already there.
The position of an ironmongery fitting.
A repair that’s carried out properly rather than simply covered over.
These are the details we notice — and they’re the details we care about.
We believe good craftsmanship should still look good years after we’ve left the property.
In all the years that we've owned a home, we've never been as delighted by work that's been done as we have been with Kirk's. In fact, in this day and age where it's difficult to do so, after witnessing the work Kirk has done over the years, we trusted Kirk implicitly to do the best work anyone could possibly do on any aspect of our reconstruction.
Kirk initially worked on the interior design and remodelling of our 7 bedroom Art Deco Style home. We had initial plans but were quickly won over by his expert knowledge and passion for all things decorative. They came up with exquisite ideas for our redo, which surpassed our expectations. We may have had reservations about their execution at first, but they soon quelled those. Just watching them work, you can see just how much they care, in the meticulous attention to detail, the diligence and dedication and the craftmanship - it was often a pleasure to watch them work.
They took great effort to explain each step, to talk through everything and to work very cleanly. Our favourite things about Kirk are his sheer dedication to his craft, which is becoming sadly rare these days. He is continuously looking to upskill, learn new techniques and researches continuously. Kirk also worked on the exterior rendering and paintwork of our house. In doing so, he designed and crafted for the first time ever a genuine art deco balcony to replace our dilapidated one, after looking into designs, materials and techniques. It came out like a work of art!
The work that he has done truly fits the original design and character of our home, something that we sorely wanted to maintain. He respected the existing architecture and adapted all the plans to best elevate and illustrate that character. For example, while removing plaster from a wall, he uncovered an old fireplace in our kitchen and we quickly discussed ways to work it into the new plans. It's now a lovely centrepiece there.
It was an honour to let Kirk work on our home most of all because he's a very honest, humble and polite gentleman. He has become a trustworthy friend over the years and who we hope to stay in touch with for many, many years. We can't thank him enough for all of his hard work and genuine artistry. Thank you so much, Kirk!
It starts with a conversation. Tell us about your property, what you’d like to achieve and any ideas or concerns you already have.
We’ll look at what’s already there, what’s original, what’s been altered previously and how the proposed work will sit within the rest of the property.
There isn’t always only one way to approach a project. Where appropriate, we’ll discuss different ideas and solutions and help you decide what feels right for your home.
We’ll explain the proposed work in detail and what’s involved so that you have a clear understanding of the project before work begins.
Your property will be treated with respect throughout. We aim to work cleanly and methodically while keeping you informed as the project progresses.
We don’t believe the last 5% of a project should receive any less attention than the first 95%.
The finishing details matter.
We’d be pleased to hear about it.
Whether you have a period property in need of restoration, an original feature that requires some attention, ongoing maintenance to take care of or simply an idea you’d like to discuss, please get in touch.
You don’t need to know exactly what needs doing before contacting us.
Send us a few photographs, tell us a little about the property and what you’re hoping to achieve, and we can take it from there.
