Edwardian Conservatory Restoration

This project involved the complete restoration of a beautiful original Edwardian conservatory, bringing a tired and deteriorating structure back to life while retaining the character, craftsmanship and period details that made it such a special part of the property.

The conservatory had suffered from years of weathering and deterioration, with areas of timber requiring significant repair and replacement. The roof and surrounding structure also needed extensive attention, while the original windows, decorative details and internal finishes all required careful restoration.

The challenge was to bring the conservatory back to an excellent standard without losing the character of the original building.

The first stage was to carefully expose the areas that required attention.

Sections of deteriorated timber were removed and the structure was supported while repairs were carried out. This allowed the condition of the existing framework to be properly assessed and meant that sound original material could be retained wherever possible.

The repairs were made using an african hardwood timber called Sapelle. This was all done on site with us carefully shaping sections of timber to match the existing shapes and sizes. The work was approached with the aim of repairing and recreating the original details wherever practical.
